In chapter eighteen, God tells Abraham that, even though his wife is barren he will one day be the father of a great nation. In the article Manser claims, "He chooses a family, or rather a people, to make his history with them in an exemplary manner. Others should be able to learn from the example and join the people of God. However, people rejecting God are not immediately punished for their sins." (Manser) The first of God's Covenants is made with Abraham. All that is done to Abraham shall be put back unto those who did him hence forth. As read Manser recalls from the story that, "Abraham shall be blessed and he shall be a blessing, the one who blesses Abraham will be blessed, the one who curses Abraham will be cursed, all nations of the earth shall receive blessing through Abraham." (Manser) God made another promise to Abraham, his wife Sarah was of elder age and was unfortunately barren, God told Abraham "Sarah thy wife shall have a son." (Genesis 18:10) With this Sarah laughed because she knew that she was unable to have a child and God responded, "And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old?" (Genesis 18:13) In this time period it is known that if a child cannot be made than it is the woman's fault, so when God told them that they were to have a child they were overjoyed, that is an archetype of a treasure in itself. Abraham went on to discuss with the LORD about saving is people, in the end Abraham is a savior in a sense, he is an archetype of a hero.
