INTRODUCTION Adequate nutrition plays a fundamental role in the healing of wounds. The process of wound healing requires a great deal of new body tissue, which depends on adequate amount of essential amino acids. Necessary amino acid must come from dietary protein or from parenteral nutrition if a patient cannot eat or tolerate enteral feeding for an extended period. Dietary protein recommendations may increase above normal needs to restore lost protein and build new tissues at the wound side1 to heal the wound in the shortest time possible. OBJECTIVES • To show the importance of high protein need in wound healing • Summarise the evidence for the relationship between nutrition (importance of high protein) in the management of wound healing in patients. • To show when and how to implement high protein nutritional support to promote wound healing in patients. WOUND Injury to living tissue, localized to the skin and/or underlying tissue, usually over a bony prominence FACTORS AFFECTING WOUND HEALING         Nutrition Age of patient Wound care Pressure on the area Surgical intervention (debridement) Pressure of metabolic disturbances, such as hyperglycemia Edema Infection Medications such as anticoagulants and immunosuppressive drugs including steroids
