Thesis statement

The SWOT analysis is a way to analyze a company's or a departments position in the market in relation to its competitors Collet, 1999). SWOT stands for Strengths,Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats Collet, 1999). The goal is to pinpoint all the major factors affecting competitiveness before crafting a business strategy. In this paper I will create a strategic and operational plan based on the SWOT analysis, which is done on the Kroger Co., and will explain two factors. The first factor is how these plans will achieve the related goals. The last factor is how the planning decisions on the internal and external stakeholders that are identified, and the affect they both have.

Introduction

The Fortune 500 company that I chose was the Kroger Co. The Kroger Co. is one of the world's largest grocery retailers and is based out of Cincinnati, Ohio. The company's mission is “to be a leader in the distribution and merchandising of food, pharmacy, health and personal care items, seasonal merchandise and related products and services” Farfan, 2015). One of the company's vision is integrity. The value of integrity at the Kroger Co. is “living our values in all we do, unified approach to how we do business and treat each other” Farfan, 2015).

Strategic planning

Strategic planning is developing a structural scheme or method for effectively achieving a goal or objective Kumpf, 2004). There is a five-step process that a company like the Kroger Co. can develop and implement. The first step is for the company to develop a vision or a goal that they can achieve.
