Financial Empowerment

"To me financial empowerment and financial literacy means financial freedom. This freedom gives the opportunity to maneuver through life with limited obstacles. Financial literacy gives the power to utilize your money wisely and most importantly translates into financial stability. I plan of sharing this important financial information with my friends, family and hometown community by going back to my high school and church stressing the importance to the students. I believe it is imperative this information is disseminated early, which will allow it to be an integral part of their lives. With my family and hometown church community I plan sharing the information received at the summit and having them integrate the practice into it into their daily living.

The question I would like to have answered at the Summit is how does one who is so far in debt gain financial stability?

I should be chosen for a $500 Visa pre-paid gift card as it will assist me during the academic year whenever I fall short. There are times unforeseen situations arise, for me it is my mother losing her job. Monies that I could depend on are no longer available. Receiving this gift card would compensate for the monies she is no longer able to send me.

The Importance of Having a Budget

Having a budget is not a choice but a necessity. It is important for everyone to have a budget in order to balance the amount of income with expenditure. Having a budget can help us plan our finances. With a financial plan, we will know where the money we have goes to.

It is essential for us to be able to take control over our money and not have our money control us. Therefore, we must be able to decide how we should spend and save our money no matter how much or how little we have. This way, we are in control of our finances. Being able to control our finances means that we must also be smart to decide between the things we need to buy and the things that we don’t.
