Following the Moral Path

      Morality has been around for as long as people can remember and it is something that is believed to be a part of all human beings. Every human has it; the one thing that changes from person to person is whether you follow those morals or disregard them. People’s futures all depend on a person’s decisions and actions and if these decisions and actions are immoral, it can be assured that that person will have problems later on in their life. Khaled Hosseini, the author of The Kite Runner, was trying to demonstrate what can happen if a person strays off the moral path. In The Kite Runner, the author Khaled Hosseini shows how not acting morally from the start can lead to negative consequences by using the actions of Amir and his father in his novel to demonstrate it.

Morals reside in people since an early age, and it can be seen in the children of today. If one observes children one can notice certain things like what they do and how they react to certain circumstances. Morality in children can be seen at early ages and how they care for each other and look out for each other (Johansson). When children protect each other and show compassion to other children, it demonstrates that that child has morals, and it shows that they will grow up to be a good person. This relates to the main character of The Kite Runner, Amir, who at a young age was given two choices. He was given the opportunity to save his best friend Hassan from being raped or he could walk away and leave things as they were. Unfortunately Amir chose the latter. In Hosseini’s novel it seems that the young Amir knows what he must do, but just cannot bring himself to do it. He seems conflicted and was scared that if he did interfere he would also suffer along with Hassan, but that is not the only reason he does not interfere. It seems that everything he has been exposed to in Kabul have affected Amir and his decisions.
