The CEO of the Los Angeles Tribune Company has selected me to construct several goals in order to fix some of the issues we are experiencing here within the company. Each of these issues has impacted the company and could cause damage in the future. The three issues I plan to address, I will provide a goal statement, give strategies, tactics, activities, measures of success, and recommend goal measurements. The three issues I will be covering are the cost of paper rising, the current number of employees cannot continue to be supported if revenue continues to shrink, and the cost of distribution is rising.

The cost of paper has risen over the years and I don’t think it will be stopping any time soon. The goal is to decrease the amount of paper being used without affecting the outcome of our work. Some strategies that we can take in order to accomplish this goal would be to reduce spending and go to an uncoated or matte finish and maybe move downwards in paper grade. Anybody without a paper contract has seen paper costs go up 20% in the last year. I think paper is going to continue to rise, so I recommend having a paper contract to control the price increase. Paper is the largest cost of any print job, so being able to control the cost will help us stay within our budget. The activities will include how to reach the audience more effectively, by taking multiple mail streams into a single mail stream to improve efficiency. Also, contracting larger companies and offering special rates. By seeking out companies that can offer a better price for the printing paper or maybe even having the company invest in making the paper onsite will save the company tones. The way to measure the success would be to find out how much revenue was saved by changing the type of paper being used and how much was being used.
