Abstract

Human resources have been called the “key ingredient to organizational success and failure” (Baron and Kreps, 1999). In today’s Globalized era Human resource practices have become more innovative and technological. This paper is about the innovative human resources practices that some companies use every day, specifically the best places to work and the innovative human resources that they provide. The three companies that will be discussed are Google, FedEx, and Apple. This paper will review what the companies do and how they stay on top being one of the best places to work. Innovative human resources practices will be discussed such as performance management systems, work life balance, achieving career excellence, and how they get the best of the best to work for them.

Introduction

There are many companies that are considered the best places to work but some stand out more than the others for many reasons. The three companies that I will be discussing in this paper are Google, FedEx, and Apple. Each of these companies are considered one of the best places to work and in this paper I will discuss what they do and how they do it, how they got to be the best at what they do and the effect that it has had on the company.

History of Google

Google, based in Mountain View, California, is the world’s most popular search engine. Google began in March 1996 as a research project by Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Their goal was “to develop the enabling technologies for a single, integrated and universal digital library” (Google Inc., 2011). Google has created some very impressive milestones of its time and continues to grow rapidly every day.
