STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The study aimed to determine the effects of social media to the Pharmacy students of Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation during the second semester of the school year --- 2014-2015.

Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions:

1. What are the most Common Social Media/ Applications used by the Pharmacy students of VMUF?

2.1 Facebook

2.2 Google

2.3 Twitter

2. How social media can effects the study habits of the Pharmacy students?

1.1 Distraction to the studies

1.2 Addiction in using social media

1.3 Reduced learning and research capabilities

3. How much time does the Pharmacy students consume in using social media?

1.1 5 Hours below per day

1.2 More than 6 Hours per day

1.2 10 Hours a week

HYPOTHESIS

To answer the research problem, a test of hypothesis is required. Accordingly, the null hypothesis will be tested at the 0.05 level of significance and is stated as follows:

There is no significant relationship between the profiles of the respondents and the effects of social media of the Pharmacy students in Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation during the Second Semester of the School Year 2014-2015.

The definition of social media is “the relationships that exist between network of people” (Walter & Riviera, 2004). In the last ten years, the online world has changed dramatically. Thanks to the invention of social media, young men and women now exchange ideas, feelings, personal information, pictures and videos at a truly astonishing rate. Schill (2011) states that the social media sites encourage negative behaviors for teen students such as procrastination (catching up with friends), and they are more likely to drink and drug.
