Project Execution, Reporting and Managing Resources

Abstract

The scope has been completed and accepted by all parties. The project team has been selected and roles identified and the schedule has been developed with the first two units being shipped in 4 months and the project team.

Now it is time to execute and manage the project. This paper will discuss the process the project manager will take to successfully execute and manage the resources.

Introduction

The leadership team now needs to execute this project by developing the schedule, team and all resources needed to execute this project successfully. This proposal is for the U.S. Navy with Newport News being the prime contract company will have many deliverables so the schedule is vital. Not all projects need schedules the smaller ones that are for a short amount of time will not need one. But this schedule is based on a 15 yearlong contract.

Milestone Project Schedule

A master schedule was created prior to the project being awarded. Now it is time for the program team to create a detailed project schedule with milestones.

A milestone schedule is the projects life cycle and is the summary level schedule that allows the project manager to review and identify all of the significant and major project related milestones that may surface during the course of a project.

For this specific project the milestone schedule on top of the detailed project schedule is just as important because of the amount of deliverables associated with this project. There are 22 deliverables over a 15 year period some are documents and others are actual items.

Detailed Project Schedule

The detailed schedule will help the project manager and team leaders in directing hourly, daily, or weekly project work. The detailed schedule is considered the execution playbook for the project. With this this project build books will be created on every deliverable.
