In this paper, I chose to go with one of the articles that was provided by the instructor. I chose the article,”Breastfeeding predicting childhood obesity in multi-ethnic cohort women with diabetes.” This article has all of the things I will need to provide the proper answers that are required in this paper.

The sample of data collected is taking a certain amount of women who are breastfeeding their infants will somehow reduce the chances of that child becoming obese during childhood. This study also includes the fact that the mother has pregestational diabetes. The total number of questionnaires that were mailed out was 480. The largest number of women that returned their survey was 125. All of pregnant women were sent a questionnaire via mail and they were asked to fill it out and send it back.

In the survey, approximately 65% of the women had Type 1 Diabetes and the other 35% of the women had Type 2 diabetes. With this survey, they would be able to determine whether or not diabetic, pregnant women should breastfeed their infants to help prevent childhood obesity.

In the past, overweight children were not really a problem. Recently, the public has become more aware of the growing problem of childhood obesity. Being overweight can cause many health issues, including diabetes in young children going into adulthood. This study was done to see if there is a way to possibly stop or lower the risk of childhood obesity. According to the article, the reason for the study is that breastfeeding gives more nutrients that an infant may need and help it avoid becoming overfed. However, formula feeding can cause the child to overeat, which would cause the plasma insulin levels to elevate. It is also proven that the pregnancy of women who become diabetic during pregnancy have an increased risk of the infant...
