The Youth of a Nation are the trustees of prosperity. Full of life and full of hope these youths are the powerful agents of positive change and development in the nation. They are innovative, hardworking and literate and if unleashed and exploited to the full potential they could be driver of economic, social and political change. Only if government is able to work for youth as beneficiary, engage them as partners and support them as leaders; these youths would act as catalyst and bring whole nation together giving it a name and recognition in the international arena.

For every nation be it China, Brazil or India; the major driving force for rapid and exponential growth has been their youth whom they like to address as human capitals. These countries were swift in understanding the power of its human capital and did whatever it could to unleash that power. Nepal is a country with 22.6% of total population aged between 15-24 years of age while 35.7% of total population comprise of people aged between 25-54 years. With such a strong human capital base it is a pity that our country has not been efficient enough in unleashing these youths. To make matters even worse, until today the percentage of child labor has been 34. At the age when the youths must be given quality education, hygienic food and a free mind they are given responsibilities of their families.

Nepal with large young population could see its economy soar, provided it invests heavily in young people’s health, education and protect their basic right. The health expenditure until 2011 has been only 5.4% of total GDP while education expenditure has been 4.7% only.
