7. Communications skills are obtained by nurture. It takes practice to perfect skills in communication; it is not something a person can learn immediately.

g. Focus on information and knowledge as corporate assets
9. Encode- converting an idea into words that will transfer meaning
Channel- the medium over which the message is translated
Decode- translating a message from its symbol form
10. Stop talking, control your surroundings, establish a receptive mind-set, keep an open mind, listen for main points, capitalize on lag time, listen between the lines, judge ideas, not appearances, hold your fire, take selective notes, and provide feedback.
11. Receivers are more then likely to believe nonverbal communication. Body language helps to understand listener’s feelings.
12. My culture is high context. They move as a group and not as an individual in most situations.
13. Ethnocentrism- the belief of superiority in one’s own culture. Tolerance and developing communication is a great tool to overcome ethnocentrism..
14. Use simple English, speak slowly and enunciate clearly, encourage accurate feedback, check frequently for comprehension, observe eye messages, accept blame, listen without interrupting, and smile when appropriate.
15. Consider local styles, consider hiring a translator, use short sentences and short paragraphs, avoid ambiguous wording, and cite numbers carefully.
