FALLING IN LOVE WITH CAPIZ

A route to melodramatic cascades

A paradise jam-packed with spectacular cascades. An unanticipated scenery that would make our hearts tingle and take our breaths away. A land filled with secluded wonders that will bring you to cloud nine. What we are looking for this time was a sighting in our own province’s backyard beyond nature’s hidden grandeur. If you are the adventurous-type looking for a falls where you can unwind, then, we can assure that Capiz is the all-in-one spot to go here in Western Visayas.

Nothing is false with this falls

President Roxas, locally called as Lutod-lutod, is not only a ‘sugar-attraction’ with its vast sugarcane planted fields and hub for the Capiz Sugar Central. A ride along hectares of tall, green vegetation under a glorious daylight seeks for a place to quench the humidity one feels.

Riding a multi-cab from Crossing Cabugcabug, and passing through partially concreted roads we reached the humble settlement of Brgy. Bayuyan. Folks welcomed us while scribbling through the tourist logbook, and a group of lads approached us to be our guide as we start our hour-long trek towards our goal of the day – to see the hidden cascades of Liktinon Falls.

Astounding rock formations were everywhere. Even the trek was covered by altered stone sizes that hyped up our adrenaline as we have to skip, hop, or walk over it, wadding through crystalline-watered brooks and streams that came from the falls we were in quest of – and with that, we know why the place was named Liktinon, from the Hiligaynon word ‘liktin’ which means to jump.

Exhilarating trek to wander

Sign boards were posted in every crossroad we pass, which kept us on track and secured that we will not be lost in the wilderness. As we behold the awe-striking view of Liktinon Falls, our exhausted bodies were extinguished by the relaxing gush of cool water dropping from oversized rocks towering from the mountain ranges of Bayuyan.
