The Green Journey

Many of us have heard of the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer. They are a science based health care company, and I have always just assumed that it was a pharmaceutical company that was just worried about making money, and did not know that they were as concerned about the environment as they are. Pfizer faces many differ environmental issues each and every day. They have a global business that consumes a great amount of natural resources such as managing the water resources and mitigating its impact on the climate change.

Pfizer has identified that their impact on the changing climate should try to be minimized if possible. Pfizer put their own plan into place to try to minimize their own greenhouse gas emissions. They realized that they could not change overnight, so they decided to set voluntary goals to try to help them achieve their objective.

Pfizer released a climate change position statement to help them set the course. Pfizer realized that voluntary was the best policy when it came to lessoning their impact on the changing climate. Their first goal was to reduce their emissions by 35% per million dollars. They used their 2000 data as a baseline, and they achieved this goal in 2007. They set a second goal to try to achieve a 20% reduction of emissions on an absolute value. Their time frame for improvement was 2007-2012. They achieved their goal, but they had to put numerous different procedures in place to reach their goals. They reached out to policymakers to try to use their influence to help endorse polices that worked to help reduce the emissions. They continued to take voluntary efforts to reduce emissions in house, as well as with any new constructions, they also engaged with their stakeholders to explore more markets with environmentally preferable products.
