Justification on a Scriptural Basis

“How can you justify risking revenue by taking a Biblical stand when you have employees depending on the revenue stream of your business” is a thought provoking question. It is also very intimidating yet it is a valid question to ask.

I believe the critical and cautious way to approach this would be to determine your motives behind the risk. First of all, does it glorify Jesus? “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father” (Colossians 3:17). As a Christian, can you take the risk without a guilty conviction in the conscience? Your modus operandi involving the risk must not compromise your testimony and witness among your employees.

We are supposed to care for them with great love and consider what is in their best interest, not just ours. “Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself” (Philippians 2:3). Can the risk be taken with integrity of the heart towards God and the people depending on your funds?

That is a question worth pondering considering the risk may greatly affect peoples’ livelihoods. Furthermore, can the risk be taken from an honest standpoint? For example, if you owe payments for loans you should strive to repay what you owe, although it may possibly cause a substantial revenue loss. Avoiding payments is dishonest and violates the nature of God: “the wicked borrow and do not repay” (Psalm 37:21). The risk must be justified from an honest position because honesty in business is one of the greatest weapons we have in our arsenal.
