Alvis Corporation’ Case Study

1. According to Hersey Blanchard model, a leader has to match his or her leadership styles to the needs of maturity of subordinates which moves in a cycle and stage. Leadership style is grouped in four categories based on the combo of two considerations, task and relationship behaviours. A subordinate maturity is defines as the ability and willingness of the people of directly for their own behaviour. If the leadership style is combined with maturity, there are four styles, telling, selling, participating, and delegating. In this situation, Kevin McCarthy has well analysed the situation and then call them and tell the situation and define the positives and negatives and then give opportunity to participate in the decision making. According to Vroom-Jago Model, there is a decision tree that helps a manager to make sound decisions. There are five alternatives which are available with Kevin McCarthy. First, he can make the decision and inform others. He can collect the information from workers and make a decision; workers will not participate in decision making process. He can discuss the case with candidates to get their suggestions without bringing them into a single. You can call the group for meeting and discuss the case and its solutions. Last, he can call the group and give them ample opportunity to discuss the situation and take the decision and it will be finally implemented without any interference. As according to this model, McCarthy should evaluate all the alternatives and need to use them which would be more suitable as per the situation.

2. Before his experiment, he was playing a role of autocratic leader who took all the decision by himself without taking any suggestion from his workers. But after the experiment, he plays a role of a participative leader who has given the opportunity to his workers to discuss the situation and come with suggestions and ideas.
