Introduction to Project

In conjunction with Marston’s Four Step Race Model, research and analysis of Cycle Against Suicide was undertaken. This event was specifically chosen due to its phenomenal success and also how it has impacted upon the public.

Cycle Against Suicide’s campaign and event was strategically planned in advance of their media launch.

Introduction and overview of Charity

Suicide is claiming the lives of at least 500 people each year in Ireland. These people include fathers and mothers, wives and husbands, sons and daughters, sisters and brothers, best friends and colleagues.

Cycle against Suicide is a voluntary organisation that is endorsed by National Suicide Research Foundation (NSRF) as a positive mental health initiative that aims to:

* Raise Awareness of this prevalent issue

* Offer reassurance that it’s OK not to be OK; and that it’s more than OK to ask for help

* Direct people in need to where this critical help is available both locally and nationally

The catalyst for Cycle Against Suicide is Irish entrepreneur Jim Breen. Jim had visited a Suicide Awareness group in Dublin 15 as part of RTÉ’S documentary, The Secret Millionaire, which was aired in July 2012. Noticing the huge impact that this programme had on people, Jim decided that he had to use his skills and influence to help raise awareness for the supports available for suicide prevention in Ireland.

The team consists of very hard-working volunteers who share the common goal of raising awareness of the supports available for suicide prevention and bereavement services in Ireland. www.cycleagainstsuicide.com/who-we-are/
