Treasure Trove of Aging Workforce

The aging workforce will cause several adjustments in employment relationships. This specific workforce population has advantages and disadvantages within the industry. Several adjustments are expected to occur within the workforce industry.

The increasing age diversity will create new challenges for managers in the work industry. Some of these changes managers will find with the diverse workforce is motivating the older employees differently from the younger employees. Creating a cohesive environment is another challenge for managers. Managers will need to be more vigil to ensure that the younger employees will not discriminate or exclude any older employees in working in groups or work assignments.

Some example of policies that would lead to charges of age discrimination is having policies that are not age-neutral. Policies such as this will have a significant impact on the older employees that does not have reasonable objectives by the employer and reasonable task to accomplish the task. Another policy is having a different compensation classification for older employees. To ensure employers are not discriminating against the aging workforce, the employer needs to have policies that rewards on the basis of performance and not tenure. ‘Offer the same training and educational opportunities.’ In addition employers need to assure that all employees are held to the standard of performance, by doing this employers will be practicing fair discipline.
