The Idaho State Nursing Board is commonly referred to as the bridge for accountability between nursing and the public. The agency is responsible for maintaining and strengthening public safeguards while decreasing or overcoming barriers in nursing practices. The Board of Nursing presents many strategic services to the providers and recipients of healthcare in the State of Idaho. Determination, communication, and evaluation of standards of conduct, policy, certification and licensure, are a few of the tasks that regularly board members strive to complete. The board is also responsible for research, regulation of practice, and revision of policy. Any healthcare providers desiring to become certified or licensed must prove competency to the board, through testing and other qualifications of providers and professionals in the nursing industry.

In order to obtain a certification as a nurse’s aide, or a license of LPN or RN you have a few options. You must apply with the Idaho State Board of Nursing by filling out the required application packet. There are two ways licensure and certification are granted which are by examination, or evaluation. With both types the board will need the name and completion year of the course or school you attended where you completed the program. The process is faster if you have documentation of completion and transcripts to submit. They will also grant a certification or licenses by equivalency evaluation, should an applicant be able to provide proof of significant equivalent to Idaho standards. Idaho will also renew these certifications and licenses by evaluating previous one held in the state of Idaho as well as other locations if they are close in standards and requirements.
