Summary and Reflections

Summary:

The movie focuses on Ishaan Nandkishore Awasthi (played by Darsheel Safary), an eight-year old boy who hates school and studies. Despite being tutored constantly by his mother Maya, his focus is not on Mathematics, Reading and Writing and worse, he has the tendency to reverse the letters and numbers, and unable add, subract, multiply or divide on mathematical tests. In addition to this, he also has problems in motor coordination skills and could not catch a ball from a distance. Despite his lapses for an eight-year old boy like him, he has demonstrated Visual-Spatial intelligence, and that he is interested in colors, kites, animals, structures, everything in his surroundings. His visual artistic skills is something that surpasses children of his age, but at the same time, overlooked by adults due to the fact that most adults focus on subjects that are "important" for kids to focus and to them, if you do not excel in academics such as reading, writing, language and mathematics, you are deemed "idiot".

Ishaan's father, Nandkishore Awasthi (Vipin Sharma), is a successful executive who expects his children to excel. His mother, housewife Maya Awasthi (Tisca Chopra), is frustrated by her inability to educate her son. Ishaan's elder brother, Yohaan (Sachet Engineer), is an exemplary scholar and athlete, which Ishaan is frequently reminded of.

Humiliated and frustrated, Ishaan bunks schools for getting low grades and keeps them to himself. On discovering this, his parents decide to send him to a boarding school on the context of getting disciplined. Boarding school does nothing better to help Ishaan. Therein, he is befriended by one of the best students in the class, Rajan Damodran (Tanay Chheda). This leads Ishaan into a state of fear and depression, adding to the already traumatized separation. The movie now takes a twist with the entry of new temporary art teacher...
