If I could choose which, I feel that l would be Antigone. I would rather die for something I did, than be Ismene and die for something out of my control, and really not my fault. Both girls were to be executed, even when it was all Antigone. I admire Ismene’s courage and bravery for stepping up with her sister, but frankly, it was unneeded. Antigone did the crime, Ismene was not even there at either of the times Antigone buried her brother, so there was really no reason for her to be lumped in with her sister. I would rather have done the crime and pay the consequences than pay them as a bystander. I feel as though Ismene is the older sister because she feels a sense of protectiveness over Antigone. Like it’s her fault that Antigone buried her brother. Maybe that’s why Ismene felt she should be punished as well, because she wasn’t watching her little sister like she was supposed to and this wouldn’t be happening if she had been. Also, Ismene seems a little more wary of the laws, like she’s known them longer than Antigone has and is more accustomed to them. She knows it’s illegal to bury a traitor, and she’s probably seen it happen before, so she knows what has to happen and not to rebel against it. Antigone seems more adamant to the rules, like they are new and unfair. She acts as though the rules have not been there for as long as they have. Now that the rules are suddenly conflicting her, they are a problem.
