Easy Ways to Save $$ in College

Transitioning to college is a fun and exciting time in a young adult’s life. It is also a time where there living frugal is almost a necessity. Many students do not realize how expensive college is until they get there. But another thing they don’t realize is that a few simple things can dramatically reduce the cost.

The price of tuition, books, room and board, and everyday living expenses really add up. There is almost no way for a college student to not have debt when they graduate. Financial aid is the most effective way to pay for school. They give you the money you need now and allow you to pay it back once you get a job after graduation. Every incoming college freshman should file for financial aid benefits.

But financial aid can’t cover it all. You’ll most likely need more than what is given. Scholarships are a great way to get easy money. Now I know from experience that filling out scholarship applications is a pain in the butt. But hard work pays off. There are thousands of scholarships available either through your school or through businesses and foundations. Finding scholarships is as easy as using Google. The hard part is filling out the applications, but if you put in the time, you’ll be rewarded with some free money.

College expenses aren’t all just school related. Everyone wants to have fun and go out on the weekends. Whether it’s having a few drinks with friends or going to concerts, it’s going to cost money. For that, I suggest getting a part time job. There are many on and around campus. Not only is it a great way to make some extra cash, but also you learn a lot and meet some great people while you’re at it.

Paying for college may seem like a lot, but if you work hard use your resources, you will get through it.
