The Six-Step Model

CJ440: Crisis Intervention

James Parkins

February 17, 2015

The situation that I’ve located and selected to do that involves the six-step model takes place in New Jersey shortly after the attacks of September 11th. There was a young man who was a senior in college that lost his father from the attacks of September 11th that was showing some signs of harming himself. He was giving away all of the things that he cherished most and had barricaded himself in his room and wouldn’t talk to anyone. He was sleeping over half of the days and barely eating anything. Some of the things he said over the phone showed some signs of possible self-harm. After showing these signs his mother had decided to call a mental health hotline.

They identified that he was having suicidal thoughts all because of his father passing away on September 11th. While taking care of stage three they also took care of stage four. They did this by letting the young man tell the whole story as to why he was feeling the way he did. That is how they found out the whole reason...
