Making a Response Essay

1. What is a reflection paper?

A reflection paper allows students the chance to communicate and to share what they have learned in a lesson, lecture, personal experience or any coursework to their instructors. This often focuses on the writer’s personal feelings and experiences, but maintain a somewhat academic tone (Butner, S.).

2. What are the parts of a reflection paper?

The parts of a reflection paper may vary per author because it depends on him/her on how he/she wants to write it. Usually, the parts of a reflection paper are the parts of a normal essay: an introduction, body, and conclusion.

3. What is a critique paper?

A critique paper is a “research that involves a formal analysis and evaluation of a text, production, or performance” (Nordquist, R.). There is a critiquing criteria, which are the “standards, rules, or tests that serve as the bases for judgments” (Nordquist, R.).

4. What are the parts of a critique paper?

A critique paper contains constructive criticism and feedback on how to make a work better. It also contains the parts that you liked about the piece with specific details because it may help the author of the piece that you are critiquing. According to www.cod.edu, a critique paper should include information about: characterization, continuity, techniques, format of the text, dialogue, plots, pacing, and conflict (“Guidelines for Writing a Critique”).

5. What is the difference between a reflection and critique paper?

The main difference between reflection and critique papers is that a reflection paper is a subjective paper, which focuses on the writer’s personal experiences and feelings, while a critique paper is a formal paper, which analyzes works using critiquing criteria.
