Observe the dress code

Every office has a dress code. Now is not the time to make a statement with your new Bieber jeans and tank top! When in doubt, observe what clothing others around the office are wearing and try to wear something similar. You will notice that a smart shirt/blouse combined with skirt/trousers is generally the standard office attire, smart and presentable.

Be prepared

If you have a deadline, meet it. If you have reports to hand in, be sure to be fully prepared for your assigned workload. On the job training gives you a firsthand glimpse of how an office works. You will learn all the intricate characters that create an office environment. There is always a character that is unprepared. Don’t let this person be you. You want to create a good, lasting impression, not be the person nobody wants to deal with. Be proactive in your approach and you will be noticed for all the right reasons!

Be professional

The office is not the playground, where you meet with your mates with a Red Bull in hand! It is a place of business, and as such, how you conduct yourself here will be noticed. Your office chair is not a toy for you to swivel around in like you’re at the wacky races! Be sure to maintain good posture while seated, to ensure optimum well-being. Comfort is a necessity for office chairs today; therefore, you must respect the office equipment. Remember, perceptions are really important!

On the job training will give you firsthand experience of an office environment. Many factors can make you stand out from a crowd, or blend in with the wallpaper. Success in any office boils down to respect. A hard worker will be respectful of his peers, his workload and his surroundings.
