Reflective Essay

I think my subordinates would describe me as a caring but stern leader. They know they can always come to be for advice and assistance and I will make sure they have the tools they need to be successful. I try to inform them of things that I wasn’t told as a young NCO, and ensure they’ve done what needs to be done to make them successful in the future. I may not know everything but they trust me to do what I can to assist them. I have a blue/orange temperament which means I like to have fun with my job while taking care of my people. I believe you can have fun at work as long as we are getting the job done and keeping things professional. This can also be my weakness as a leader due to the fact that they would probably say that I am too laid back at times. My personable mentality sometimes makes it hard to establish boundaries which can make it difficult if there ever is a moment where I must render disciplinary actions

I think my supervisor would describe my follwership as someone they could count on. I do what’s expected of me to the best of my ability. While I do have some issues with time management, I make sure to always do my best to produce a quality product and it never hinders the mission. I think my supervisor would say that I give valid input and I am someone that can get the job done. While it did take me some time to get this point of followership, I believe that my journey has made me a better follower and in turn a better leader. One of the leadership style I practice is leading by example. I will always demonstrate and perform a task that I have asked of my subordinates. I consider this effective because as discussed, our subordinates are always watching what we do. Showing them that I am willing to work side by side, I feel will motivate them to want to follow in my footsteps. If I haven’t done it or would not do it, I don’t expect them to.
