Economic Issues Discussed in State of the Union Address

Every year, the president comes before the audience of the entire United States, and gives us an insight in how everything is going in the country we are living in. One of the biggest issues going on in the United States today is the economic issues we are having, and that was a large part of the State of the Union Address given by President Obama on January 28th, 2014. A large debate was started when he said that he would act alone in trying to help the economy get going in the right track. President Obama said that he would not “stand still”, and will do everything in his power to pass laws that help out families without needing approval from legislation. I’m not expert in politics or economics, but this part of the speech interested me the most because it almost sounds like he is wanting to run a dictatorship and take actions in his own hands no matter what anyone thinks. I’m not sure that is in the best interest of the congress, but if it helps improve the livelihood of American families, then I don’t think anyone is going to be complaining about what President Obama does on his own without approval from legislation.

Another part of the State of the Union that had to deal with economics is when President Obama announced that he is going to have an executive order raising the minimum wage to $10.10. He said that there is too many families working to “just get by”, and that he wants American families who are not in the 1% to b able to work, and not worry about being able to pay off all their bills with the new minimum wage at $10.10. President Obama talked a lot about the wide gap between the rich, and the middle class to poor people. He said that the rich have never done better, but the middle class and poor people income budget has not moved, and that he is going to do everything in his power to help out the middle to poor class of people so the income gap is not so large.
