Youth social action: building a global latticework through information and communication technologies

A) What do you understand from your readings regarding the issue? Explain your answer.

Based on the article that I have read, which I have entitled it as my topic, basically it was related to youth may us social media to speak out opinions and to make changes in their lives. Besides that, there were five youths age range between eighteen and twenty-four and two youths that are working in non-government organizations that were being interviewed. They have discussed about the connection in building a youth action movement, the usage of ICT and access barriers to connection opportunities.

Based on the result of the role of connection in building a youth action movement, they identified their main purpose was to connect youth to one another in social action and support them in their action initiatives. Nowadays youths are basically interested in some face to face applications that can connect them with others online.

The interviewed shows the result for differential use of information and communication technologies as there is many difference kind of opinion spoken out from the participants. Face to face options were the most effective and it could build a long-lasting relationship. One of them said that there is many things would not be done if we do not have Internet nowadays. Telephone is also under an important option that could not be replaced by e-mail.

Lastly, the issue that has been discussed is about the access barriers to connection, which are internet access, funding, language and authentic structures for youth. Financial barriers had limited the access for those who cannot afford it due to the high cost of a network.
