FUNDAMENTALS OF INSTRUMENTATION

HP-302 Open Stream Velocity Meter

The HP-302 is a hand held turbine meter intended for field use. The turbine, when immersed in a flowing stream, rotates at a speed in direct linear proportion to the fluid velocity. A pulse signal is produced with each rotation of the turbine.

The patented design of the turbine and shroud offer unique capabilities. In combination, turbine and shroud are highly directional, enabling detection of stream patterns as well as measurement of velocity. By adjustment of a pivot, the turbine may be rotated over 90 degrees for a vertical velocity measurement and insertion into pipe discharge ends. Small size permits measurement of streams as shallow as 1.5 inches. In addition to the 3 foot probe, extensions may be used for an overall reach of 21 feet enabling sewer surveys from street level.

22 Series Turbo-FlotmĀ Probe

Here is an easy to install insertion meter with turbine meter accuracy. The low mass non-metallic turbine rotates in direct proportion to fluid velocity and can provide local flow rate and total information with no external power required. 4-20 mA signal outputs are also available for control and automation functions.

The 22 Series probe has its own integral screw jack mechanism for "hot tap" insertion through a 1.5 inch full port ball valve at pressures up to 400 psig. By rotating the crank handle at the top of the probe, the turbine is lowered through the open ball valve into the stream. What an improvement over the "tighten down nuts on three threaded rods in rotation" method!

This instrument is ideal for periodic sampling or permanent installation. It is often used as a flow prover for other metering devices in large line sizes.
