Another one of the articles that we came across is called “Forms of Value Systems: Focus on Organizational Effectiveness of Cultural Change and Maintenance”. It discusses the culture within an organization and how certain value systems are incorporated to contribute to the success of the corporation. Culture can be defined as the social or normative glue that holds an organization together (Siehl & Martin, 1981; Tichy, 1982). It expresses the values or social ideas and the beliefs that the organization’s members have come to share (Louis, 1980; Siehl & Martin, 1981). Unanimously, most researchers of organizational culture have concluded that shared values within a company or corporation helps with the cohesiveness between workers and makes up the framework of the culture.

Values can be defined in many different ways. One meaning is an enduring belief that a specific mode of conduct or end-state of existence is personally or socially acceptable or preferable to an opposite or converse mode of conduct or end-state of existence (Rokeach). This definition is related to societal values and the normative beliefs of what is acceptable to society. It suggests that values are shared between the members of the group and certain norms are conformed on factors such as behavior and the expectation of those behaviors. This brings about the topic of organizational value systems. It is defined as an organization’s behavior that is shared between members within an organization. They provide guides for goals, policies, and strategies to be successfully completed within the company. This is the basis for a successful team. It gives members the ability to work together in a constructive environment and achieve their goals in a timely fashion, while respecting each member’s opinions.
