You hear it on the news all the time, shortage of food, infomercials play telling you to donate to feed the starving children, and even see people standing on the street corner begging for money for food, why is everyone hungry? People believe this and most are outraged, but is it true? The majority of people believes the myth that the world cannot produce enough food to feed everyone.

However, this myth is not true. The world in general is in a period of boom, where there is an abundance of food out there. In America alone, 35.1% of the population is obese due to the easy access to food. MacDonald’s feeds and outstanding 68 million people daily. For example, there is enough grain being produced today to provide everybody in the world with enough protein and about 3000 calories a day, which is what the average American consumes. There are people that make thousands of dollars competing in eating contest. Even in a city like Houston, every other corner has a food establishment of some kind, whether it be convince store, grocery store, or restaurant. Hearing these facts, do you think that the world is starving?

The problem is not that there is not enough food, it is the social injustice that exist in the world. Social injustice is a concept about the claimed unfairness or injustice of a society in its divisions of rewards and burdens and other incidental inequalities based on the user's worldview of humanity. Countries and companies rather let people starve than miss out on a penny of profit. Restaurants and most grocery stores rather throw out their extra food than donate it to food shelters. Countries such as India, Bangladesh, Brazil, and others in Africa export most of their produce while their citizens starve, India itself ranks in as one of the most top exports, while over 200 million of the country’s population goes starving.
