Abstract

The aviation industry has developed and incorporated many innovation in operational measures to minimize fuel usage. This is to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Recently, the Presidents of the United States and China have agreed on efforts of reducing emissions to thwart global warming and climate change. New technologies, plane designs, and software development are just a few ways the airline industry has been able to reduce fuel requirements and emissions in recent years.

Recently our president met with China’s president to discuss a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions levels to be reduce by 2025. A sought effort brought about by the constant debate about global warming and climate change. Although the main points were to cut greenhouse emissions from cars and power plants. This logic can be applied to aircraft emissions as well. There are already quite a few efforts by different companies and corporations to meet this head on. Boeing and NASA are leading the charge in aviation fuel efficiencies. Most airlines have adopted a voluntary fuel efficiency goal. Which is to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by twenty-five percent by 2020.

The Air Force not to be left behind in this effort has made strides in fuel efficiency with the help of some of industries best practices. “The U.S. Air Force’s Air Mobility Command (AMC) is changing the way it does business” (U.S. Department of Energy, 2012). “Although (Global Aircraft Service, 2010)profits drive the need for industry fuel savings, AMC, the Air Force’s largest user of aviation fuel, understood that creating a fuel-savings culture was key to attaining fuel savings objectives” (U.S. Department of Energy, 2012). “AMC looked to the commercial airline industry for best practices, which can be adopted by any type of fleet;...
