1. Background

With the boom of the Internet, more and more teleplays, whether domestic or oversea, are increasingly easily accessible. Meanwhile, however, the domestic teleplays are encountering with fierce competition from overseas. Both official and unofficial data have provided valid evidence on the difficulties the domestic teleplays face.

One of the most significant ways for audience to get access to domestic teleplays is cable TV. Graph 1 summarizes the officially recorded annually cable TV license revenues in the last decade by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television. The bars indicate that through all the years, the cable TV license revenues have been increasing, while the line demonstrates that the rate of increase has been suffering from decline except a slight rise in 2008. The drop of cable TV license revenue implies that there may be less proportion of people watching domestic teleplays in the following years.
