Company Profile

The Ford Motor Company is an American multinational corporation and the world's fourth largest automaker based on worldwide vehicle sales, following Toyota, General Motors, and Volkswagen. Based in Dearborn, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, the automaker was founded by Henry Ford and incorporated on June 16, 1903.

Ford was launched in a converted factory in 1903 with $28,000 in cash from twelve investors, most notably John and Horace Dodge (who would later found their own car company). Ford was Ford Motor Company survived the Great Depression and is of the largest family-controlled companies in the world, it has been in continuous family control for over 100 years.

Ford motor company performs its business in 7 continents and 90 plants are speared worldwide. Ford operates its business in North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, Middle East, Africa and Caribbean.

Today company has 8 vehicle brands namely Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda, Volvo, Jaguar, Land Rover, Aston Martin, which primarily operates in the US and Europe. It is headquartered in Dearborn, Michigan and employs about 300,000 people.

In 2007, Ford fell from the second-ranked automaker to the third-ranked automaker in US sales for the first time in 56 years.
