Asia has been a growing region for the hedge fund industry: The region's hedge funds

have attracted $3 billion in net capital allocations this year through July, according to a

report by Eurekahedge Pte. Additionally, Asian hedge-fund startups have raised an average

$20 million each in the first half of 2014, more than the average $15 million raised in 2013.

There is potential for more growth — Preqin Ltd. estimates that Asia Pacific-based firms

represent about 13 percent of all hedge fund managers, but less than 4 percent of total

industry capital.

And new developments could lead to significant changes in the region and provide

a boost to the sector. The domestic hedge fund industry in China is beginning to see

growth after the establishment of the Asset Management Association of China (AMAC),

a self-regulatory organization sponsored by the China Securities Regulatory Commission,

Deutsche Bank AG said in a report. Shanghai’s Pudong area, home to the city’s

main Lujiazui financial district, plans subsidies and a government fund-of-funds to

encourage hedge-fund growth, according to Shi Haining, director-general of its Financial

Services Bureau.
