Hrm Challenges

There are many challenges that an HRM faces in modern management. Managers also face many challenges within the evolving working environment. It is the responsibility of the HRM to come up with plans on how to include these growing challenges, their causes and how to address them with their managers so that the company can thrive.

There is a lot of increase in competition both globally and locally within the organizations and HRM’s as well as managers must become more adaptable in order to succeed. Challenges that managers are facing include; workplace diversity, globalization, advances in technology, changes in economy, and mobility of professional personnel.

According to Thomas (1992), dimensions of workplace diversity include, but are not limited to: age, ethnicity, ancestry, gender, physical abilities/qualities, race, sexual orientation, education background, geographic location, income, marital status, military experience, religious beliefs, parental status and work experience. The future of one’s organization relies on its ability to be able to manage different individuals from different backgrounds who can all bring innovative ideas and perspectives to their work. If the organization does not support diversity then one risks losing that talent to their competitors.

In order to effectively manage workplace diversity and HRM needs to be able to change their views to a culturally relative perspective. One of the best ways for management to handle workplace diversity is to initiate a Diversity Mentoring Program. This type of program will allow the members of the organization to air their personal opinions and learn how to solve conflicts due to diversity in their work environment. It will encourage productivity and give employees a change to think outside of the box.
