Civil engineering requires at least a bachelor’s degree and ABET certification after obtaining a degree. ABET Certification is required for engineering licensure. Civil engineers are projected to have 24% job growth over the decade and have an average income of $74,600 per year. As of 2008 there were 278,400 civil engineers and by 2018 there are projected to be 345,900 civil engineers.

Construction Managers- Manage the construction site. Coordinate the building processes to be finished within designated limits. Most construction managers have a bachelor’s degree in some field of construction and some background experience. Construction managers make an average of $79,860 per year and as of 2008 there are currently 551,000 employed in this field. By 2018 there are projected to be 645,800 employed which is a 17% growth.

Engineering Managers- The backbone of putting together a product. Engineering managers guide the assembly of a product to ensure it’s finished with the specified details and limitations. They coordinate, plan, organize, and design the product with a team of engineers from start to finish. A bachelor’s degree in some field of engineering is required and licensure contributes to better employment. A business degree also helps for finding employment in this field. Engineering managers make $115,270 on average per year. In 2008 there were 228,700 employed and by 2018 there are projected to be 246,900 employed which is an 8% increase.

Cost Estimators- Put perspective on how much a finished result will cost. Gives the consumer or builder an idea of how much needs to be spent or bid. A majority of cost estimators work in the construction industry so it helps to have some background or a degree in construction. Cost estimators make $56,510 on average per year.
