The three forces that determine racism from the book Race, Class, Gender in the United States, in the section page 13 of Racial Formations by Omi and Winant are scientific, religion, and politics. Racism is a tool of patriarchy also. This also brings up masculinity, in which way patriarchy goes well with it. Having a masculinity identity shows you are a man, having patriarchy gives a male more power than what he may be capable. As for homophobia, pretty much is different with everyone individually. The marketplace man is in addition to masculinity and patriarchy.

Racism has been around for ages as far back as I can remember. In some states in the south, it is still going on today. I remember I had witness a rude racial comment that affected not only my friend. Because it was towards her, but to me as well. My friend and I were at the Vallejo Adult School on a break, she was eating a burrito. My friend is tall, big, and her style is tomboyish and she is Salvadorena.

A piece of foil had fallen from her burrito and a white man across the street yelled out, “Pick up your damn garbage you dirty Mexican!” I must admit, that pissed me off and I wanted to say so many nasty things back to that man! However, my friend was the one that went completely off and that person. She started crying after we walked away from it. I didn’t really get why she was crying until she told me that she hates being compared to a different nationality and wants to be seen has who she is. This affected me also because I truly understand how my friend feels, we all want to be seen different because we are all individuals, yes we are all human but different in many ways.

Men are the dominance of the world at least that is what goes on in the males mind. To prove their masculinity, they will do just about anything, for example, some will pick on males and challenge their masculinity that will turn in to some negative conflict.
