Google Bypasses Safari’s Privacy Settings

Google were given a minor fine for interfering with Apple’s web browser, Safari. What was it that Google did? Well, they used special technology to bypass Safari’s default privacy settings, but this unethical action caused a bigger stir than intended. When they were exposed in February, they immediately shutdown the technology they were using. All of the stakeholders of Google would include: the users, investors, employees, developers, and the advertisers. The users wouldn’t be affected as much as the others. This is because the typical user has not put any money towards owning a share with Google. As for investors; well, the prices of their share will take a toll because of such a heavy fine having to be paid by Google. The employees and developers will be affected primarily the same way since they both deal with working at with the corporate itself. What could happen is that pay cuts may have to be made. Finally, the advertisers could lose potential profit, because they are not going to be advertised as often on Safari anymore.

Google was fined the $22.5 million for secretively using technology to bypass Safari’s default privacy settings. Out of the $2.9 billion, the $22.5 million only made up approximately 0.78% of Google’s whole quarter earnings. To us this may seem to be a huge cut of Google’s net income, but in reality it’s a small price that Google could afford. Finally, Google does not have incentive the increase reported earnings during the period of the fine, because they will lose some of their advertising on Safari that would be based from users’ recent history.
