Business Communication Speaker Analysis

The speaker I evaluated is Rosie Jones. Rosie Jones is known as one of the best female golfers to ever play the game. She was a member of the LPGA, as well as Solheim Cup Captain for one year. I saw Rosie speak at Eagles Landing Golf Club in Stockbridge Georgia. I think Rosie would make a great Speaker for our conference coming up.

The event was well organized. It was a sit down dinner where everyone was served their food before the speech commenced. The event was held in a ballroom that was located inside the clubhouse. There were several round tables set up to accommodate the exact number of people attending. This event was by invitation only which, in a way, made sure that the people attending were really interested in the speaker that was coming to talk. There was also a dress code in place. This made the event feel more formal and important to me. The room was decorated beautifully and servers bustled around the room making sure to refill glasses and clear plates as soon as possible. Each person was allowed to go through a line and select his or her meal. The food served was pasta, salad, bread, and vegetables.

According to Top 7 Business, part of what makes an excellent speaker is the speaker’s attitude and animation. In order to captive the audience’s attention you must give off an exciting presence that makes them want to know what you’re going to say next. Ms. Jones did this exceptionally well. Not only did she vary the tone in which she spoke, but she also had a confidence about her when she spoke. This confidence was apparent to the audience, which made them more receptive to what she was saying. If the speaker does not have the right attitude or animation the audience may get bored very easily and tune out of the presentation. This is not something we want happening at our GSU Speaker’s Conference. Since Rosie has great attitude and animation it is another reason that I would recommend her.
