Post Lab: Determining the Water Content of Popcorn
Due Date: March 2, 2015
Source of Error
Determining the water content of popcorn experiment had sources of error thought out the experiment which where we had to weight the popcorn kernel, pop the kernel over the bunson burner, observe and take notes once the popcorn has popped as well as weight the popped kernel and compare and contrast how much water weight was lost. There are four source of error that occurred during the experiment. The first source of error was once the kernel popped it fell on the floor. This is a source of error because the popped kernel could have collected some dust and even water that could have tampered with our final weight results. The second source of error is that for the second brand “Pop-Secret Jumbo” the last two reporting where slightly burned which could effect how much water lost as actually lose because some starch was burned off. The third source of error was when one popped kernel popped it flew into a student hoodie pocket and pieces of the popped kernel where broken off which could have given it a higher water loss and affect the final result. Lastly, the fourth source of error was when a kernel popped it flew into the garbage where there where many other popped kernel and it could have absorb some trash or water.
