Nursing Shortage

The medical surgical unit of sun valley in the town of moonville, county was at one point known for its care for patient under the of the nurses staff. However, as the year went by the hospital was hit hard by the economy with the shortage of nurses. The Sun Valley hospital was faced with critical crisis with nurses. The hospital fails to use nurses that were ready and qualify for the job. Sun Valley hospital decided to cut back the LPN staff at a time bedside caregiver is in a short supply. This fall off primarily result from two factor first the general cuts in the nursing staff. Nurses are leaving the profession in droves largely because of retirement but also because of the stressful working conditions. The state is pouring money into the problem for the increase of education like scholarships and loans forgiveness programs for nurses who want to return to school (Vu, 2008). However, the state succeed in receiving more future nurses in the hospital; meanwhile, the nurses are continuing to leave the profession because the hospital still had a few issue to fix within the workplace among the staff (Vu, 2008). The shortage has led to a mandatory overtime and fewer nurses to take care of more patients. These issues can cause the patient care to worsen and also cause an increase in the violence against nurses from the patients and his or her families.

Sun Valley hospital is scramble to accommodate the shortage of nurses by searching for nurses who can provide professional care and avoid burnout of overworked staff that has placed severely strained on the patient to nurse ratio.
