Abstract

This article was titled “Anti-informer culture must go”, it was written by Keisha Hill-gleaner writer, and published on Monday November 7, 2011. It was published in the Jamaica Gleaner, a popular daily newspaper that serves as informative medium for Jamaican citizens by providing current and up-to-date news. This particular article was written was written in reference to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JDF) and the highlights placed a lot of emphasis on the what was referred to as “the culture of silence”, an act of not speaking out in accountable situations therefore compromising the nature of integrity.

The article in detail informed us that the JDF members declared that the culture of silence is no longer being maintained in the department as various measures are set in place to minimize this act with the intention of building a culture that can display professionalism and provide better quality service to the public. The article also made mention of characters such as Sherika Service- Woman Special Sergeant who express her views on the matter, saying that one should always aim to maintain their integrity.

Sergeant Anton Cardoza, instructor at the Police Academy was also mentioned as he serves as another main character presented in the article. In making reference to the issue in relation to the concept of officer supervision, he informed us that these supervisors should be guided by certain levels of morals and ethics, therefore if they are unwilling to take the ethical approach, they can be charged for failing to properly supervise.
