1. The main argument concerning globalization and culture are material desire, artistic influence, western values, a force for good, and deeper values. The first argument, material desire, is saying that globalization fosters material desire. Peoples' material desire may cause the demands for the foreign goods, and finally cause globalization. Moreover, this desires for foreign goods may destroy the local cultures, or the human health such as the evil fast food especially in developing countries. A good example of this would be “Coca-Colanization of nations through advertising campaigns that promote material desire (Wild and Wild 23).” Coca-Colanization is a portmanteau of the Coca-Cola Company and world colonization. It refers that the taking-over of the world by Coca-Cola due to the advertising campaigns. The huge amount of importation from Western countries did threaten the value of local cultures. The second argument is artistic influence. Evidence indicates, “cultures of developing nations are thriving and the influence of their music, art and literature has grown throughout the past century (e.g. African cultures have influenced the work of Picasso and the Beatles) (Wild and Wild 23).” The influence of globalization on art education, which plays a significant role in the development of modern art. Artistic Influence goes to a direct role of not only intellectual capacity but also the formation and development of the moral and aesthetic culture of young people. For instance, from my home country, Taiwan, more and more popular singers are not focusing on singing Chinese songs. It is obvious to find that they are adding different languages (Japanese, English, etc.) or styles/ components (rapping, hip-hop, jazz, blues, etc.) into their songs in order to make them better. As the textbook mentions, Picasso and the Beatles are two artists that have been influenced by the impact of globalization so that they may introduce their beautiful works to the world. The third...
