Ali: Response to draft

Image someone fighting for their life, not only in the ring but in everyday life. Mohammad ali is a famous boxer who knocked down opponents in the ring while trying to knock down racism, people views on religious freedom and justice in America. His speech was in response to him being drafted to fight in the war so; his main audience was to officials, judges, and police man, whoever was responsible for sending people to jail when they refuse to fight in the war. I liked this speech because he spoke from his heart, he didn’t sugar code the reasons why he didn’t want to fight in the war. Ali didn’t care who was listening he said what others only thought and that made him stand out as one of the greatness.

The strength in this speech was the boldness and the honesty, his writing style was informative. Many people have their own views on war but never really tell the whole truth when asked in public how they feel about war. Ali’s views were bold and I believe it sparked up something in people’s mind who never thought about war his way. In this quote, Ali explains one of the reasons why he wouldn’t fight in the war. “But I ain't goin' no 10,000 miles to help murder and kill other poor people. If I wanna die, I'll die right here, right now fightin' you -- if I wanna die.” He makes a valid point with this statement there is no need to go to another country or continent to kill other struggling innocent people. Ali didn’t need a team he stood by himself and if he had to take America on one on one he would. He would rather die for something he believed in rather than fall for anything.

I believe there were no weaknesses in this speech, the tone is strong and the length was perfect because he made his point. So many people become famous and forget about the struggle it took and still takes to be where they are. Ali never forgot where he came from, the challenges he faced not only as a child...
