Fredika Wackå, a Communications Adviser is Sweden tells us, “that the word Blog is an abbreviation of the word “weblogs” (2007, p. 3). When I think about a blog I take that to mean that a person or a company is sharing their thoughts, interests, or goals. Sometimes a blog may be referencing one subject or a couple of different ones. The part that I do like is that the blogger’s website allows for a community forum where others can speak and post their opinions or questions.

Blogging has changed business communication in various ways that can be considered positive and negative. A corporate blog helps the organization to reach their goals (Wackå, 2007). For instance, blogs allow organizations to connect with their customers in an immediate but relaxed way; they recommend that their audiences partake in the active conversation (Bovee & Thill, 2010). It is extremely important in today’s world to be able to maintain an open dialog with customers. It allows a company to better understand the people’s likes and dislikes and in turn it will help the company to market to their consumers better. Very little people have time to fill out a customer satisfaction survey but they can easily use social media sites or blogs to discuss their opinions about a particular company or product.

There are a lot reasons to blog and limited reasons not to in our today and age. The technology has changed drastically from what I had twenty years ago. I remember when I first started playing on a computer in school; it was a big box, the entire font was the same size and color, and we mostly played Oregon Trail but times are different. Businesses have to stay on top of the times and change with them, if they want to continue having customers and appealing to the public. Businesses blog so that they can get and receive results; they want to see how they connect with certain social groups and what they need to do to reach the others.
