eTHE FRUIT OF LOVE

The sound of the gangsas awakes the village with its melodious harmony. The women dances gracefully to every beat of the music as well as the men. Everyone is blissfully celebrating the occasion-- an occasion wherein two people are married to each other.

Everyone except a woman silently dwelling at the back of the ceremony.

"Let us dance", Awiyao offered to her wife who is idling at the moment.

Maludimay uttered nothing and continued staring blankly.

"Come on. Isn't this very similar with our wedding dance?" Awiyao added.

"Yes, they are. In actuality, we still are the same persons since we got married." Maludimay said.

"I am still not enough." The woman added whisperingly.

Four harvests have already passed since the wedding, yet they have not borne any child. This fact has been haunting Maludimay for the reason they are together may also be the reason they ultimately would separate. The feeling of being completely, hopelessly, desperately in love with someone, all the while knowing you will never reach them is what defines Maludimay's emotions towards Awiyao.

She recalled the first moment she laid her eyes on Awiyao. His eyes scintillated like the brightest star in the vast night sky. His lip was the scarlet color of tulips lyrically dancing with the wind. His smile was as warm as the mellow rays of the sun in daybreak. His voice softly echoed from her head through her body and soul. She was caught unguarded by the whimsical trick of love.

However, she knew so bad she will never have him for she will never be Lumnay.

"Why are you still here?" Maludimay asked Awiyao.

"Because I am your husband, is that reason not enough?" Awiyao answered.

"I know. I know. But I also know that you will never love me as much as you love Lumnay." Maludimay cried. Tears involuntarily flowed down her bronze cheeks like the waterfalls in the mountain where they first met.

All she wanted was for his eyes to look at her the same way he gazed at Lumnay. She...
