Airrport safety is not only important but is a necessary necessity that every airport must be up to date on training in all aspects of safety. In order for an airport to even be allowed to perform operations in the United States and serve air carriers, it must have an Airport Operating Certificate. This certificate is granted under the FAR Part 139 and it must maintain an Airport Certification Manual. Even if the airport is not included in the Part 139 airport, it should still have an airport operations manual. (Wood,2003)

The Airport Certification Manual has many contents but I will only name a few:

1. Airport operational responsibility 5. Systems of Runway

3. Airport grid map 7. Description of aircraft movements

4. Limitations imposed by FAA Administrator 8. Rescue and firefighting equip. and proc.

Another part of the Airport Certification Manual is the airport emergency plan. The plan is however printed and distributed separately. 1. Instructions for response to: 3. Crowd control

a. Aircraft incidents and accidents 4. Removal of disabled aircraft

b. Bomb incidents 5. Alarm systems

c. Structural fires 6. Coordination of tower and airport

d. Natural disasters 7. Notification procedures

2. Available medical and rescue services 8. Coordination with law enforcement
