Introduction: The survival of the planet depends on the ecosystems of the planet which enable the environmental cycles to occur naturally and to replenish as and when the balance breaks down. Nature has its own way of providing for the population of all living species on the planet and also has a natural way of correcting all the balances when they are titled to one side which could cause the changes ion all the life cycles of the ecological systems in a chain of events that would be difficult for mankind to handle and to recover from.

The Ecological System: as the The ecological system that has been chosen is the rain forests importance of the rain forests cannot be underestimated. Their contribution to the perpetuation of life and the natural resources that the rain forests provide are invaluable to all living species on this planet.

Location of Rain Forests: Rainforests are located in regions that lie on the equator.57% of the rainforests of the world are in Latin America. The other rainforest are located in South East Asia, The Pacific Islands and West Africa. Out of the 57% two thirds of the rain forests in Latin America are located in Brazil (MBG, 2015).

The Congo Rainforests is one of the major rainforests after the Amazon rain forests.

Structure of Rain Forest: The structure of rain forests can be divided into layer starting from the top to the bottom. The four layers of the structure are the

* The emergent’s which are the trees that grow beyond the canopy of the rain forests canopy.

* The canopy which is the leafy overhead that is exposed to the sunlight but provides shade below

* The Understorey is a layer that is a warm moist and provides the moisture for the roots of the entire forests and for rain forest species.
