Privacy: Risk of identity theft and impersonation. Good security is a massive concern for consumers when sharing the personal details with an online company. It is extremely important for businesses to provide a secure method of payment because of the vast amount of competition within e-business’s if a business fails to provide a safe method of credit card transactions there is plenty of other competitors who will and thus losing out on profit.

SSL( Secure Socket Layer)

Business must purchase a S.S.L certificate which can be purchased from a web service company. The Web service company will then research the company to make sure that the company is authentic .They will check references and encrypt data. During the process of a purchase being made between the consumer and the company only two web servers are being used the consumers and the companies hosting server.  The consumers web server checks the seller S.S.L certificate and then verifies it with the authority, if it’s authentic the two computers will form a connection.  It will then be decided between the two servers what type of encryption will be used.  After this decision is made another agreement is used to decide which S.S.L is needed, they are many different types of certificates that can be used and depending on which one the business buys there will be a symbol used when security is in place. Data then moves between the two servers. When data leaves one computer it’s encrypted using the correct method and the hosting server will then descramble the encryption when it arrives. It is now safe for the consumer to place an order with their credit card.
